Philadelphia is one of those cities that keeps getting better and better. Each time I visit I'm amazed by the progress and influx of new shops, restaurants and people. During my most recent trip I spent time on Boathouse Row, where I used to row crew at Vesper, and Rittenhouse Square, where I lived for many years. An ideal day involves an early morning row followed by coffee at La Colombe, lunch at Parc or HipCityVeg and dinner at Dandelion.
Boathouse Row is beautiful during the spring months as the cherry blossoms start to bloom and the boats are on the water again. There is nothing like watching the sun set from the Vesper dock and the views of the art museum and the skyline are incredible.
I prefer to stay near Rittenhouse Square because it is centrally located and makes it easy to meet up with friends. The Hotel Palomar allows my dogs to come along and is my hotel of choice in Philadelphia. It is located a block and a half away from the Square, has a cozy fireplace and friends enjoy visiting for the daily happy hour. The staff is so courteous and friendly and it has such an uplifting atmosphere. It is always a positive experience.
My favorite place to shop is the NINObrand Atelier which is also in the Rittenhouse Square neighborhood at 333 South 20th near Delancey. Bela Shehu, the insanely talented Creative Director and a dear friend, produces her line in the US and meticulous attention is paid to quality. In addition to offering innovative designs, Bela's warm and inviting nature makes NINObrand a meeting place for other creatives as well as clients and friends. It's the perfect spot to relax, have a coffee or a drink and discuss topics like art or politics while shopping her line of elevated classics. I'm already looking forward to my next visit!
